Firefly DVD Review

Forgive me father, I have sined(that looks so wrong). I did not watch Joss Whedon's Firefly in its original run on fox. NO FATHER, PLEASE STOP HITTING ME! OW!!!!!!! PLEASE NOT THE WHIP!!!!!!! DONT TOUCH ME THERE!!!!!!!(okay that might have been a little too far.) Yes, I contend to be a whedonholic and then I don't watch Firefly, stop with the hate mail, I bought the damn thing on DVD!

Firefly is a space western set 500 years in the future, staring Nathan Fillion as Cap. Mal Reynalds and his motley crew, His first mate Zoe(Gina Torres), and her Husband Wash(Alan Tudyk)(who also pilots the ship), Jayne(Adam Baldwin) who never actully gets a title, he just likes to kill stuff, Enginer Kaylee(Jewel Staite), and Inara(Morena Baccarin) who is the only law abiding member of the crew being a....ahem "companion"(a.k.a. a upscale Prostitute). In the two part pilot Serenity, they are Joined by the rest of the main cast, Shepard Book(Ron Glass), young Doctor Simon Tam(Sean Maher), and his fucked up sister River(Summer Glau).

Firefly was really a great show that had the misfortune to be on FOX. The 14 episodes shown here range from Good(The Train Job) to down right awesome(Out of Gas, Arial, and the Message). Given the dreck that FOX has on it's schedule right now, cancelling this jem is a downright fucking tragedy. There are rumors that a Film Version is in the works, I'm both for and against this idea for reason I will explain at a later date.

For all the episodes I will Give a star rating to but no discription, as to not spoil people who have not seen it.

All in All Fox really mishandeld this series, they couldn't air the episodes in the right order and then placed it on a Friday night, which pissed many people off when they canceled it without giving it another timeslot.
All in all Great Series

****1/2 out of *****

The Visuals
(Just a Quick note, I'm doing this on a portable dvd player hooked up into my 21" tv, therefore, i'm probaly not the best source your going to find on the video and audio presentation, so take everything I say with a grain of salt, and a shot of Tequila)

Fox home video knows how to treat their TV Box sets, The visual presentation is great, short of a few really dark episodes where grain becomes a big problem(most notably Out of Gas), Otherwise a bang up job by fox.

**** out of *****

The Audible Stuff

(Read above note)

I really am not quallified to talk about an audio presentation so I will direct you to IGN DVD's review.

The Non Movie(or in this case tv) Stuff

This set comes with Audio Comentary on 7 episodes, 4 deleted scenes, Gag reel, 3 Behind the scenes Features, Alan Tudyk's audition, and the all mighty Joss Whedon himself singing.

***1/2 out of *****

The thing you see in the store

Fox knows how to packaged these Tv Sets, A great cover art featuring the entire cast, and the Serenity houses 4 slim cases, with the episodes and descriptions on the outside of them.

***** out of *****

At the end of the day, you really need to buy this set, and convince somebody that this show needs to be back on Tv.

***** out of *****
